Message: I am six months pregnant with my first child and am thoroughly confused. My mother and other older people have been telling me that in their day a strict routine was carried out with babies but this had now been disproved.
However, I have now heard of a book by Gina Ford, who is apparently one of the world's top maternity nurses and has looked after more than 300 births, in which she claims she has never failed to get her babies sleeping through the night within weeks - without a fight - none has ever had colic, hardly ever cry and eat and sleep well.
Her success is apparently due to a strict routine for walking, napping, playing and feeding. Of course, I would love this, but have any other mums tried it with any success? I am desperate to know which way to go.

Message: Hello there,
All new mums have their worries and fret a little about one thing or another.I have a young son and when I found out I was pregnant, the things that go through your mind and a whole new concept.
There are many books to read and even more shoulds and shouldn'ts.....it can be overwhelming at times.
I think the best thing to do is bond with your baby and it should all come natural but routine is a really good thing as the baby soon gets to know as time goes by.
With my son he slept all through the night and all of my friends which decided on a bed time and even if baby is awake if you dim the lights and perhaps bath and jamas on and a bottle they soon recognise "its sleep time"
If they wake up in the night even as a small baby, try not to play too much and turn all lights on etc, keep it dim and quiet and before you know it, baby will know its time for sleep.
Hope this helps! if a baby has played and had some excercise and fun, love etc it will be content and happy. Breast feeding is best of course, but main thing is be consistant really. Once you have had your baby you will be so in tune it will be so amazing and you will be great. It really is the best feeling in the world. Congrats!!!
