Subject: Poo Problems IP: Logged
Message: My son is 3 yrs and 4 mths. He has not used a nappy in the day since for about 4 months and has had probably only half a dozen "accidents". He can't go through the night and wears a nappy at night. The problem is that he refuses to poo in a potty or a toilet and waits until wearing a nappy at night. We have sat him on the toilet for over an hour before bed-time knowing he needs to go and he just refuses. As all concerned just get stressed we'll put his nappy on, put him in bed and within 5 minutes he'll have filled his nappy. On saturday he was allowing himself to suffer bad stomach pain rather than use the toilet. Any advice anyone?

Message: Dear Adrian, You are making too much of this, I have been a childminder for 20yrs & have seen this lots of times. Its a very strange feeling for a child to let their poo go. Just be relaxed about it,when he does it in the nappy have the "go dear" attitude, next time we can try the big boys toilet,It will come don't worry. Star charts are very good, a star for every "poo in the loo" with a treat when he gets 2 stars. You could always try the "we've run out of nappies" so your have to use the loo toay & i'll buy some more tomorrow.Once he has done it the first time your be fine.DO NOT frighten him, toilets are not a welcoming place in childrens eyes.
